You only really need to wash your makeup brushes twice per week (try to wash eye brushes after each use in order to avoid getting eye infections), but if you have a ton of brushes like I do (#dontjudgeme), it can get pretty time consuming to do. All of this can easily lead to breakouts (especially if you already have oily or acne-prone skin). Oh, and as if that weren’t gross enough, there are the dead skin cells and bacteria that can hang out in your makeup brushes and find their way onto your skin as well. That’s because when you use the brushes, not only are you applying makeup, but you could also be adding unseen dirt, oil, and old makeup right back onto your face. There’s no way to sugarcoat this: not cleaning your makeup brushes on a regular basis is downright disgusting.
